Overview

The South Carolina Upcountry includes 6 counties which are Anderson county, Greenville County, Cherokee County, Oconee County, Spartanburg County and Pickens County. It is located in northwest South Carolina. The Blue Ridge Mountains runs through this region.

The area is known for beautiful waterfalls, lakes, rivers and the outdoors.

The upcountry has close to 500 historic sites.

The Cherokee foothills Scenic Highway 11 is about 112 miles and can be accessed via I-85. The scenic drive is located in the southernmost peaks of the Blue Ridge mountains. It was once a Cherokee Indian trading path. The Scenic Highway passes the Sumter National Forest, the Mountain Bridge Wilderness, Cowpens National Battlefield, Oconee Station State Historic Site, Devil's Fork State Park and more SC state parks.

The climate of the upcountry is moderate.

Recreation in the area: horseback riding, ice-skiing, biking, whitewater rafting, boating, camping, hiking, tennis, golf, hunting and fishing.
