Beaufort South Carolina was founded in 1711 by the British. It is the second oldest city in SC. The town was used by the union during the American Civil War as a hospital zone. Therefore, most of the city's old buildings survived the war.Take a buggy ride thru the historic neighborhoods and downtown. Visit the First African Baptist Church built in 1865 by freed slaves.
Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina, settled in 1670. It was orginally called Charles Towne. It is rich in history. The American Civil War began here with the first shots being fired in the harbor at Fort Sumter. Take a carriage ride through the historic district. Visit the old mansions and nearby plantations.
